Today is back to school yoga with a science class. We are going back to basics with breath. This class will begin with breath awareness with a focus on the science of your breath at your nose, throat and lungs. From there we will focus on yoga postures that encourage the muscles of inspiration, that is inhalation, to release and let go so that you can take in a larger breath of air. These muscles include the pectoral muscles, the serratus muscle, the scalenus, the levatores, and the sternocleidomastoids. We will also include yoga movements that encourage increasing lung capacity.
Yogic breathing is incredibly important to your overall health In your day to day life you experience extended periods of stress, over thinking, exercise, breathing deficiencies and because of this your blood becomes acidic. Because of this you might also experience brain fog, poor memory, fatigue, restlessness, nervousness, anxiety, indigestion, cardiovascular disease, colitis and heartburn, poor sleep and autoimmune diseases. When your brain cells work extra hard without being properly nourished with oxygen, it is easy for brain cells to not be properly nourished. Oxygen is the most powerful nutrient that you can take into your body. Oxygen is vital the the operation of every organ and tissue in your system. Oxygen improves the immune function of your blood and tissue making your blood and tissue less hospitable to bacteria and viral invasion. Better oxygen in your tissues will allow your body to be more efficient overall since restricted airways and contaminated air lead to tissue damage. Better breathing is one of the best things we can do for our overall health and the first thing we will do for back to school yoga. :)
